

George Soltys, 92, of Springfield, died at 6:00 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2006 at his residence. George was born November 4, 1913 in Springfield, IL the son of Jacob and Katie A. Barczak Soltys. He married Mary Golab in 1941 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church; she preceded him in death in 1991. Mr. Soltys was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII in Median Automotive Maintenance. He worked for Skube Distributing Company hauling Hyde Park beer from St. Louis to Springfield and for Jagamon-Bode Wholesale Grocery as a forklift operator and foreman. He retired from Matthews Transfer. George was also a self-employed farmer throughout his life. He was a member of St. Katherine Drexel Parish, and attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was also preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by two daughters: Mary (husband, Robert) Yoggerst and Rose (husband, John) Henderson both of Springfield; three grandchildren: Kathy (husband, Gary) Logue of Bath, IL, Brian (wife, Cimone) Henderson of St. Charles, MO, and Katie (husband, Tom) Weir of Springfield; two great grandchildren: Thomas James “T.J.” Weir and Ashley Rose Weir both of Springfield; two sister-in-laws: Sophia Geyston and Betty (husband, Mike) Zrillic both of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola, officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the Macon County Honor Guard.
