George Leslie Tabacchi

George was born on March 4, 1942, to John and Pearl (Hall) Tabacchi. He married Michele Higdon on November 1, 1969, at St. Patrick’s in Decatur. He worked at Decatur Caterpillar for 37 years as a journeyman Tool Grinder, retiring in 2002.

George, an avid golfer, was a member of the Pasfield Men’s League; he also enjoyed watching Illini Basketball.

George is survived by his wife Michele Tabacchi, daughter Gina (Ed) Canny of Chatham, son Brent (Sheila) Tabacchi of Cincinnati, OH, his grandchildren: Sara and Ryan Canny, and Ella Tabacchi, brothers and sisters: John (Jane) Tabacchi of KY, Dean (Paula) Tabacchi of AL, Beverly (Pat) Pinkerton of OH, Susan (Denny) Griffiths of AZ, Patricia (Larry) Rusher of IL, and Joyce Stevenson of FL.

Preceding George in death were his parents and a sister Jean Phillips.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N Amos Ave, Springfield, IL 62702, from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial mass at 11 a.m.

Memorials in George’s name may be made to the Central Illinois Foodbank, 1937 E Cook St, Springfield, IL 62703.
