Gerald Glenn Overby, Sr.

Gerald "Jerry" Glenn Overby, Sr., 66, of Springfield, went home on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 7:24 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center. Jerry was born August 12, 1945 in Springfield, the son of Hubert and Charlotte Newman Overby. He married Wanda Goff on October 24, 1964 in Springfield. Jerry had worked for Fiat-Allis and then retired from Eaton Corp. as a machinist. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Academy. Jerry was a former Eucharistic minister at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and was a current member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Jerry will forever be remembered as a hard working family man with a great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronald Overby, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Wanda of Springfield; children, Mischelle (husband, Brad) Overby-McMurray, Jerry (wife, Dareama) Overby, Jr. and Shane (wife, Kimberly) Overby, all of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Mindy Richards, Aaron Overby, Gina McMurray, Alaina Overby, Jordan McMurray, Skyler Leichsenring and Torin Overby, all of Springfield; one sister, Nancy (husband, Ren) Diaz of Miami, FL; other close relatives; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield, with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga celebrant. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
