Gregory A. Schwarz, Jr.

Gregory A. Schwarz, Jr., 61, of Springfield, died at 1:13 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at his home. Gregory was born July 7, 1957, in Oak Park, the son of Gregory A. Sr. and Greta Nielson Schwarz. He married Louise Hale on August 6, 1983, at Ascension Catholic Church in Oak Park. Gregory graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School, class of 1975. He earned his Associate degree in Science of Nuclear Medicine Technology. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. Gregory most recently worked for the United States Postal Service. He previously worked for St. Johns Hospital for thirteen years and Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants for nineteen years as a Nuclear Medicine Technician. Gregory loved cooking, using his smoker "Big Bertha" and enjoyed fishing and gardening. Gregory was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Christopher Schwarz. He is survived by his wife, Louise Schwarz of Springfield; daughter, Rachel (Nick Deiss) Schwarz of Springfield; siblings, Kathleen Schwarz of Spokane, WA, Paula (Steve) Myers of Elmhurst, and Niel Schwarz of Northern, IL; and many additional family members. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Graveside Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
