

Guy Richard "Dick" Bradford, 82, of Springfield, died at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at St. John's Hospital. Dick was born May 10, 1926 in Olney, IL, the son of Guy Monroe and Lois M. Wright Bradford. He married Marilyn F. Galligan on August 17, 1947 at St. Agnes Church in Springfield; she preceded him in death in 2007. Dick was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII as a trainer pilot. He was a tool and dye maker by trade. He started at Sangamo Electric and Allis Chalmers and retired from Echlin M. Litchfield in 1989. Dick was a member of Elks Lodge 158. Dick's faith was very important to him. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was a hard worker who loved his family, fishing and sports, especially the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He was also preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Ruth Bradford. Dick is survived by his two sons, Rich (wife, Joan) Bradford of Parkton, MD and Bill (wife, Darcy) Bradford of Winterville, NC; one daughter: Sue (husband, Mike) Disco of Springfield; seven grandchildren: Michelle, Amanda, Emily, Alexandria, Victoria, Christina and Erica; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2009 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield with Rev. Robert Jallas, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with the United States Navy providing military honors.
