

He was born December 4, 1921 the son of John C. and Martha Wendler. He was baptized on Christmas Day, 1921 and confirmed on April 5, 1936 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Collinsville, IL.
He entered the Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri in 1942 and received his Bachelor of Divinity in 1946. Soon after, he married the love of his life, Dorothy and they were blessed with over 67 years of marriage. In 1966, he received the STM degree, majoring in Homiletics from Concordia Seminary.
Rev. Wendler began his ministry for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod as a Missionary-at-Large in Oklahoma, serving parishes in Texhoma, Enid and Miami, OK. He also served in Harvel and Addison, IL, and retired from the ministry in June of 1987 after service 17 years at St. John’s in Effingham, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, David.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy, 3 sons; Doug (wife Sharon), Bruce (wife Marilyn) and Brian (wife Dee), 2 daughters; Julaine (Mark) Kammrath and Marcella (Stan) Martin, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, his sister, Martha Ambrosius and several nieces and nephews
Visitation will be on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church 2645 Old Jacksonville Rd., Springfield, IL from 10:30 am until time of funeral services there at 12 Noon. Rev. Dr. Wayne P. Hoffman, Rev’s Daniel Eggold, Joshua Traxel, James Stuenkel, and Ted Gall officiating. Burial will follow in Farmington Cemetery at Farmingdale just west of Springfield.
