

He was born on Oct. 25, 1922 in Winchester, IL, the son of the late Alva and Bertha (Mader) Switzer. He married Dorothy Dice on Feb. 6, 1945 in Jacksonville, FL and she preceded him in death.
Mr. Switzer served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He served in the Illinois National Guard for 28 years in Springfield. He retired and moved to Arkansas where he was active in the Lions Club, the Amateur Radio Club, and the Round Dancers in Hot Springs Village, AR. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Springfield and was active in the Sangamon Valley Amateur Radio Club while in Springfield and taught Morse code for many years at the Red Cross building to students who wanted to get their amateur license.
He is survived by 3 sons, Kevin (wife Carol) Switzer of Springfield, Thomas (wife Jackie) Switzer of Rockford, IL, and Howard (wife Katie) Switzer of Linden, TN; 5 grandchildren, Hans, Jennie, Oran, Andrea, and Sarah Switzer; 2 great-grandchildren, Damien and Alexis Switzer; and a sister, Barbara Howell of Winchester, IL.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield. Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012 from 10:30 am until time of the memorial service at 11:30 am at First United Methodist Church, 2941 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield. Inurnment will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with military honors provided by the Interveteran’s Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
