Helen T. Murray

Helen T. Murray, 83, of Springfield, died at 9:35 a.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2005 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Helen was born on November 21, 1921 in Springfield, the daughter of James Luther and Loretta McVeigh Thompson. She married W. Jerome Murray in 1952; he preceded her in death in 1995. She was a graduate of Ball Township High School and also Illinois State University where she earned her Master’s degree in elementary education. Mrs. Murray retired from Springfield School District 186 after teaching thirty-two years. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Land of Lincoln Retired Teachers, Illinois Retired Teachers, National Education Association, Springfield Area Retired Teachers, Springfield Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution, Sangamon Valley Chapter Daughters of 1812 and Lambda Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by one sister: Loraine (husband, David) Keltner of Springfield; one brother: Willard “Bill” (wife, Joanne) Thompson of Springfield and three nephews and one niece. The family of Helen T. Murray will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Reverend Anthony J. Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
