

Henry "Charlie" Hanselman, 80, of Springfield, died on Saturday July 23, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Charlie was born on March 3, 1936 in Springfield, the son of Henry E. and Pauline Campana Hanselman. He married Joan Park in August of 1955. She preceded him in death in 1979. He later married Nancy Miller on September 2, 1980 in Springfield. Charlie graduated from Cathedral Boys High School in 1954. He proudly served his country in the Air National Guard. He retired from the Springfield Fire Department and later worked for the Air National Guard and State of Illinois Fire Marshal. He was a member of the Roman Cultural Society and was a long time member of First United Methodist Church. He was a kind and wonderful man. He enjoyed golfing, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and was an avid reader. Charlie was also preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Jane Hanselman; his son, David Miller; and his son-in-law, Joseph Boggs. Charlie is survived by his wife, Nancy Hanselman; son, Bruce (Debbie) Hanselman of Salisbury; daughters, Nancy (Steve) Washko of Springfield, Rita (Jim) Owen of Rochester, Melissa (Stan) Heaton of Temecula, CA, and Debbie Boggs of Springfield; grandchildren, Davina Fouke, Nicholas and Zachary Washko, Sydney and Madeline Owen, Kyle and Kayla Heaton, Benjamin Boggs, and Mila Wilken; sisters, Barbara Hanselman, Helen Mueller, and Carolyne Joseph; five great-grandchildren; several cousins; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. An additional visitation will be held from 10:00-10:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, 2941 S. Koke Mill Road, Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Whitaker and Rev. Dr. Roger Ross, officiants. Private burial will take place at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
