Imogene J. Sanders

Imogene J. Sanders, 86, of Springfield, passed away at 3:25 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Concordia Village. Imogene was born December 13, 1928 in Highland, IL, the daughter of Adolph P. and Josephine Schumacher Luber. She married Charles R. Sanders on January 30, 1951 in Highland; he preceded her in death. Imogene was a 1946 graduate of St. Paul High School. She also graduated from St. John's School of Nursing in 1949. At age 60, she earned her BA from St. Francis in Joliet. She was employed at Memorial Medical Center and retired as the nurse manager on 2B. Imogene enjoyed her family and her time with her grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bridge and other card games, dancing the Polka, and the St. Louis Cardinals. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Sanders; three sisters, Mary Hess, Laura Guller, and Estelle Stoecklin; and three brothers, Julius, Elmer and David Luber. She is survived by her son, Mark (wife, Mindy) Sanders of Williamsville; two daughters, Mary (husband, JD) Stewart of Petersburg and Kathleen (husband, Tim) Farley of Preston, CT; ten grandchildren, Meggann (husband, Josh) Bell, Katelyn (fiance', Jeremy Hoke) and John Stewart, Jared, Jessica, and Cavin Farley, Alena Garrett, and Riley, Noah and Jackson Sanders; two great-grandchildren, Cody and Abby Bell; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Concelebrated Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz, celebrant and Rev. Joseph Ring, concelebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
