

James George Banning, 59, of Springfield, died at 1:35 a.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Maple Ridge Care Centre. James was born July 31, 1950 in Springfield, the son of Jerry and Juanita Blackburn Banning. James was employed as a history teacher at St. Joseph school in Springfield then worked for the State of Illinois for many years. He was an avid Cardinals fan. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas and Matthew Banning; and one sister, Deborah Ratliff. He is survived by two daughters, Tina (husband, Michael) Johnson of Springfield and Jamie Staadt of Chicago; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mary (husband, Charles) Hensley of Blandinsville, IL, Pam (husband, Ken) Paoni of Dawson, Joette (husband, Mike) Hessick of Park City, UT; three brothers, Leo J.Banning of Louisiana, Mike (wife, Mary) and Jeffrey Banning both of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 10:00 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral ceremonies will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
