

James P. Coble, 62, of Springfield, died at 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center. James was born on December 3, 1942 in Springfield, the son of J. Porter and Alyce V. Grills Coble. James was a graduate of Springfield High School Class of 1961. He received a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from SIU and currently was working on his Masters degree in History at the University of IL at Springfield. He retired from the State of Illinois. He was a substitute teacher at the Springfield Schools and was a part time professor of Fine Arts at Lincoln Land Community College. He was a life long member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, member of Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Bishop Griffin Assembly #0201, Knights of Columbus Council #364, Springfield Ski Club, Sangamon Water Color Society, Illinois State Historical Society, Springfield Motor Boat Club, Illinois Education Association, Illinois Art Education Association, Sangamon County Historical Society, Springfield Area Arts Council, and SIU Alumni Association. He was a former member of Boy Scouts of America and USA Triathlon Officials. He volunteered very generously for Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, American Red Cross, and Catholic Charities. James loved Abraham Lincoln history, loved to water color, enjoyed visual arts, books and visiting museums. He was a deeply religious gentleman, thoughtful, articulate and talented. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: J. Porter Coble II. He is survived by one son: Jayson A. (wife, Becky) Coble of Riverton; two grandchildren: Haley and Jacob Coble of Riverton; two brothers: Franklin A. Coble, D.V.M. of Loami and Rex (wife, Linda) Coble of Fredericksburg, VA; one nephew: Jeff Coble of Fredericksburg, VA; two cousins and his companion: Dolores Uebelhor of Jasper, IN. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. The Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Bishop Griffin Assembly will post an honor guard throughout the visitation. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence, Springfield with Rev. David Hoefler celebrant.
