

James J. “Jim” Hay, 60, a lifelong resident of Springfield, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday, November 29, 2004 at his home. Jim was born December 24, 1943, in Springfield, the son of John Joseph and Thelma Fern White Hay. He married Nancy Figueira on August 24, 1968 in Springfield. Mr. Hay was a graduate of Springfield High School and had attended Lincoln Land Community College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during Vietnam where he received the Vietnam Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was employed as a police officer for the Springfield Police Department retiring after 24 years of service. After retirement he was employed as the groundskeeper for Illini Country Club until August, 2004. He was a member of the Police Benevolent and Protective Association of Illinois and Church of the Little Flowers. When he was younger he coached baseball for the Khoury League. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Janice J. Gramlich and brother: John J. Hay. He is survived by his wife: Nancy of Springfield; two sons: Tim J. Hay of Springfield, Thomas J. (wife, Corrie) Hay of Springfield; daughter: Terri (husband, Chad) Jacobs of Chatham; four grandchildren: Erika Hay, Hayden, Rylan and Mason Jacobs; three sisters: Jackie Kolaz of Springfield, Judie (husband, Loren) Curtis of New Berlin, Jennifer (husband, Mike) McKinney of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4-8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. There will be a Springfield Police Department walk through at 4:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2004 at Church of the Little Flower with Fr. Chuck Edwards celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1305 Wabash, Suite J, Springfield, IL 62704.
