

James was born on July 26, 1948, in Quincy, IL, the son of James Perry Hogge Sr. and Emma Ruth (Frankel) Hogge. He married Pamela Schreacke on June 2, 1973, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Quincy.
James grew up living in rural Missouri and was a graduate of Philadelphia Emerson High School in 1966. He served his country in the United States Navy and completed a tour in Vietnam. James worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for 38 years at Altorfer (formerly Capitol Machinery). He was a member of the Chatham VFW. Through the years, James enjoyed drag racing, was an avid quail hunter, mushroom hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed classic Chevy cars. He looked forward to his annual Las Vegas trip with his wife, Pamela, and loved going to Chantilly Lace on Friday nights.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Hogge of Chatham; four children, James “Jim” (wife, Suzanne) Hogge III of Springfield, Jamie (husband, Roger Jr.) Davis of Sherman, Elizabeth (partner, Neil Skillman) Hogge of Oswego, IL, and Lynn Hogge of Quincy; seven grandchildren and an eighth on the way any day, Alyssa and Alexander Hogge, Roger Davis III, Emma and Ryan Davis, Addilyn Skillman, and Hailey Hogge; one sister, Nadine (husband, Bill) McKinney of Paris, MO; four in-laws, Donna (husband, George) Kimbrell of Quincy, Marvin (wife, Emma) Schreacke of Quincy, Sue (husband, Dale; deceased) Schreacke of Quincy, and Beth (husband, Ron) Maple of Payson, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home-Chatham, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. A Funeral Ceremony will follow at 12:00 p.m., with Mark Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery with military honors provided by the Department of Defense.
