

James “Jim” Patrick Quinn, of Springfield, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2002 at Heritage Manor. Jim was born the son of John and Selma Riley Quinn in Springfield. He married Anita Butzman at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Springfield. He was the city newspaper’s champion paperboy. He was given the opportunity to go to college or be employed by the Illinois State Register Newspaper. He chose to be employed by the Illinois State Register where he later became the District Manager of Circulation. Jim was the Head of the Printing Department at the War Plant during WWII in Illiopolis, he was a sales person for Capital Engraving and Associates Engraving. He was the Vice President of the Insignia Jewelry Company and owner of Quality Dairy. He retired from the Secretary of State as a Graphic Arts Executive. He was a graduate of LaSalle University Business School and Illinois Business College. He was a past member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He also had a concession stand at the State Fair for 19 years called the Quinn/Simko Hotdog Hut. He was a member of the Dale Carnegie Institute, a lifetime member of the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International and he established and headed the Living Vine Prayer Group. He enjoyed gardening and carpentry, spending time with his family during holidays and birthdays and St. Patrick’s Day parties. He also enjoyed taking his grandchildren on trips and fishing. During the five years of his paralysis he felt no pity for himself, he saw everything in a positive manner. If he was asked how he was he would say he was blessed and that everyday is a good day but some are better than others. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Helen Quinn Simko in 1992. He is survived by his wife: Anita of Springfield; three daughters: Pat (husband, Art) Lindsay of Springfield, Kathy (husband, Mark) Strawn of Springfield, Colleen Quinn of Springfield; five grandchildren: Sara Mueller, Jacob Strawn, Lindsay Strawn, Joshua Lindsay and Jessica Lindsay; three nieces and four nephews. Memorial Services will be at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Very Reverend Kevin Vann and David Hoefler officiating. Visitation will follow Memorial Services until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to American Stroke Association, Midwest Affiliate, Memorial & Tributes Program, Dept. 77-3968, Chicago, IL 60678-3968.
