

James "Jim" Kevin Shea, 61, of Springfield, died peacefully at 5:05 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. Jim was born March 19, 1952, in LaSalle, Illinois, the son of James T. Shea and Natalie M. "Tolly" Shea. He married Barbara Durr on December 8, 1978. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jim graduated from LaSalle Peru High School and was a United States Army veteran. Jim was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Island Bay Yacht Club and Illini Country Club. He enjoyed boating, traveling the country with his friends and family, spending time with his grandchildren and attending St. Louis Cardinal baseball games. Last summer, Jim and his family attended a baseball game at all 30 Major League Baseball parks, creating awareness for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, the disease he was so bravely fighting. Jim joined the Capital Area Association of Realtors on January, 14, 1978 and served on several committees during his 32 years of membership. He began his career in real estate with J.M. Brown and Co. Realtors and worked with both John B. Clark and RE/MAX Professionals before he opened his own office, Jim Shea & Team Realtors, on April 4, 1996. Jim was also instrumental in founding The Real Estate Group in 1998 and was a Founding Partner until his retirement in 2010. He was also a founding partner of Cornerstone Title Company. Throughout his career, Jim was consistently ranked as the top real estate producer in Springfield and one of the top five sales agents in the St. Louis Region. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Shea, one son, James "Justin" Shea, two daughters, Courtney Jones and Mackenzie Katzmark; four grandchildren, Addison, Reese, and Sam Jones and Mia Katzmark; three brothers, Michael Shea (Karen Sisco), Patrick (Mary) Shea, J. Thomas (Diane) Shea and one sister, Liza (Robert) Rowe; several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 27, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 South Walnut Street, Springfield, Illinois with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the ceremonies. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: CurePSP, 30 E.
