

James L. Martin, 64, of Sherman, died at 4:07 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at St. John's Hospital. James was born July 16, 1945 in Springfield, the son of Alva R. and Mary M. Allen Martin. He married Eva Hernandez in Joliet on August 23, 1968. James graduated from Lanphier High School and attended Lincoln Land. He was employed as a drafting engineer for Ameren/Cilco until his retirement in 1997. His passion however, was woodworking. James also enjoyed hunting, fishing and listening to the Blues. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of over forty years, Eva Martin of Sherman; children, Hector (wife, Jennifer) Martin of Sherman, Theresa (husband, Carl) Jones of Girard and James "Alvie" Martin of Sherman; fourteen grandchildren, Zachary, Brandon, Maria, Stephen, Stephanie, C.J., Lisa, Julian, Samuel, Emma, Abigail, Austin, Cameron and Evandra; great-grandchild, Alexandria; brothers, David and Tom Daley of Springfield; and many loving friends. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Sherman Athletic Club, 300 S. 1st St., Sherman. Memorial contributions may be made to Sangamon County Animal Control, 2100 Shale St., Springfield, IL 62703. The family of James L.
