

Jean was born October 24, 1941 in Decatur, the daughter of Donald S. and F. Caline Barnett Mitchell. She married Lynn E. Neff, Sr. on August 8, 1964 in Springfield.
Jean graduated from Springfield High School and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Illinois College. She was employed with Springfield School District 186 and was a member of Cherry Hills Baptist Church, P.E.O.– Chapter EQ, King’s Daughters Organization, and the Junior League. She enjoyed flower gardening and reading, but most of all loved being a grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Lynn E. Neff, Sr. of Springfield; son, Lynn E. (wife, Christan) Neff, Jr. of Rochester; daughter, Jennifer (husband, Henry “Rusty”) Russel of Springfield; six grandchildren; brothers, Donald S. (wife, Denise) Mitchell, Jr. of South Barrington, IL and William (wife, Vicky) Mitchell of Colorado Springs, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Memorial Ceremony and Memorial Gathering: 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Avenue West with Minister Lynn Laughlin officiating. Family will receive friends following the ceremony until 6:00 p.m.
Private family burial was held at Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview.
