Joan C. Patkus, of Springfield, IL, died at 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center. Joan was born on October 7, 1930 to Harold and Evelyn Curd in Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Patkus. Both parents and her sister, Diane Grant, also preceded her in death. Joan completed the nursing program and became a Registered Nurse. She worked for the State of IL for 20 years. She enjoyed boating, sewing, knitting, playing canasta, completing crossword puzzles, watching Downton Abbey, and traveling the world. Joan was a trivia buff and an avid Cubs fan. She is survived by her daughter, Dorian Patkus of Green River, WY; two sons, Lex Patkus of St. Louis, MO, and Neville Patkus of Rochester, IL; four cousins, including Suzanne Rechner of Springfield, IL; three nieces; and granddaughter, Heather Edwards of Kincaid, IL. Private family ceremonies will be held with burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Rd., Springfield, IL 62702. The family of Joan C.
