Joann Charles

Joann Charles, 73, of Pleasant Plains, died at 12:48 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center. Joann was born March 22, 1935 in Springfield, the daughter of Eugene and Eva Wells Phillips. She married Henry "Hank" Charles on April 12, 1962 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Springfield. Joann was a graduate of Feitshans High School. She retired from the State of Illinois after over twenty years in the Secretary of State's office. Joann was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She also belonged to the HooHa's. She enjoyed shopping, especially for clothes and jewelry, and flower gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of over 46 years, Hank Charles of Pleasant Plains; daughter, Staci Charles (companion, Jon Hughes) of Chandler, AZ; brother, Richard "Dick" (wife, Karen) Phillips of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 2:00 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will end with a prayer service at 5:00. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2008 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 320 N. Saratoga, Ashland with Rev. Christopher Brey celebrant.
