John was born on October 19, 1964, in Pana, the son of Howard and Ethel “Toots” (McGuar) Adkins. He married Cindy Stine on February 24, 1990, in Pana.
John earned his bachelors in computer science and worked for the State of Illinois as a software developer until his retirement. He was an avid gamer on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. John enjoyed golfing, and loved spending time with his dogs, Rory Vanderfloof and Pepper Wigglesworth.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John is survived by his wife, Cindy Adkins of Chatham; children, Derek Adkins and Stephanie Adkins, both of Chatham, Amanda (Rick) Conner of Girard, and Annette (Derek) Dinkens of Puxico, MO; grandchildren, Vance, Liam, Ryland, Piper, and Remi; siblings, Judy (Wayne “Butch”) Small of Shelbyville, Linda (David) Abell of Pana, Janie (Stuart) Fox of Shelbyville, Jackie (Jim) Newbanks of Effingham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Private family ceremonies were held.
