

John P. Beall, 90, of Springfield, died at 1:40 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014 at Heritage Health. John was born February 8, 1924 in Mattoon, IL the son of Paul and Margaret Clavan Beall. He married Roberta Conlin on June 16, 1951 in Mattoon; she preceded him in death on December 30, 2011. John was employed as an accountant with the Illinois Department of Agriculture until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #4179, the Springfield Motorboat Club and the L.O.E.S.S. Rock and Mineral Club. John served with the Army during World War II, spending 22 months in the European Theatre, including England, France, Belgium and Germany. He was awarded 4 Overseas Service Bars, the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with 1 Silver Battle Star, a Good Conduct Medal, a Meritorious Unit Award, a World War II Victory Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother. John is survived by two sons, James Beall of Springfield and David (wife, Paula) Beall of Chester, VA; two grandchildren, Derek and Aaron; two sisters, Mary C. Beall of Mattoon and Martha Franz of Normal; one brother, Robert Beall of Mattoon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. The visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield with Rev. Jeff Grant celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
