John J. Burke, 66, of Springfield died at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center. John was born December 14, 1941 in Ottawa, IL, the son of John E. and Lora B. Lane Burke. He married Susan L. Barbee. John was a graduate of Griffin High School and Illinois Wesleyan University. He served in the Illinois National Guard for six years, and was employed as a Public Information Officer for the Illinois Department of Transportation retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Easy Does It Club where he was President of the Board. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife: Susan L. Burke of Springfield; one son: Michael D. Burke of Springfield; and one brother: Dr. David (wife, Kitty) Burke of Kalamazoo, MI. Family will receive friends from 10 - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Kurfman officiant. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
