John "Butch" Walter Reeves

Butch was born April 11, 1945, in Springfield, the son of Walter Monroe and Freida Kenshalo Reeves. He married Joanne L. Coombe on June 24, 1983, in Springfield; she preceded him in death on January 20, 2021.

Butch attended Cathedral Grade School and Springfield High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War and later had the privilege of attending the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight. Butch was a salesman for Freedom Chevrolet in Virden until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church and volunteered as a goal judge for the Springfield Jr. Blues. Butch was also active with kids in Springfield Youth Hockey. He enjoyed fishing, especially at Otter Lake Campground. Butch never met a stranger and was a rock to his family.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and grandchildren, Daniel Allen Reeves and Charlotte Ray Reeves.

Butch is survived by his children, Brett Allen (Whitney) Reeves of Rochester, Marc Oliver (Krysten) Reeves of Chatham, John “Bart” Reeves of Springfield, Mike (Karen) Miller of Bend, OR, Julie Reeves Belfer of Phoenix, AZ, and Erica (Joe) Carrigan of Dawson; grandchildren, William and Crosby Reeves, Judah Estill, Analiese Reeves, Devon and Joseph Varela, Joshawa and Wyatt Carrigan, Grayson and Bond Belfer, and Haley and Sydney Miller; his beloved cats, Otis and Doris; and countless great-grand kitties and doggies.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home—Chatham, 8855 State Rt. 4, Chatham. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Illinois COVID-19 guidance will be followed, requiring face coverings.

Graveside Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
