John Michael "Mick" Doyle, Sr.

John Michael "Mick" Doyle, Sr., 84, of Springfield, passed away at 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at St. Joseph's Home. Mick was born September 2, 1931 in Peoria, the son of George W. and Bernice McClure Doyle. He married Barbara Ann Wiessing on September 5, 1959; she preceded him in death in 2015. Mick graduated from Cathedral High School, and then went on to Milikin University and later the University of Illinois. Mick was employed as the Chief Accountant at Sangamon State University, later the University of Illinois at Springfield. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Mick set an example for his children and others on how to be a loving spouse, devoted father, and caring grandfather; his kindness towards others will be greatly missed but not forgotten. He had a wealth of knowledge about the Springfield area. Mick enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, storytelling, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Carol Phillips and Rosemary Crum. He is survived by five sons, Bryan J. (Rebecca) Doyle of North Barrington, Terence W. Doyle of Barrington, J. Michael Doyle, Jr. of Springfield, Martin P. Doyle of Springfield, and Daniel R. (Cheryl) Doyle of Orland Park; three daughters, Jane (Jim) Adkins of Springfield, Ann (Jeff) Jenkins of Chatham, and Katy Doyle of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Megan, Patrick, Madisen, David, Sara, Evangeline, Addison, Alex, and Grace; two sisters, Barb (Jim) Stelte and Nancy Shea; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. The visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral Mass: 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield, with Rev. Jeff Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
