He was born on December 2, 1952 in Des Moines, IA, the son of the late Milton C. Morrison and Mary Lou (White) Boyd.
He had worked as a reporter for Reuters News Service and the Northwest Herald newspaper. John was a strong supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment. He lobbied for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, volunteered for the Illinois State Fair, and served on the board for the library in Cary, IL. He was of the Catholic Faith as an adult.
John is survived by his daughter Catherine (husband Jeffrey) Black of Springfield; 2 grandchildren, Charles Black and Jesse Black; a sister Penny Morrison of Houston, TX; a nephew Luther Morrison; several cousins and second cousins; and his best friend Arnie Imrem.
He was preceded in death by Betty George, his childhood caregiver, his mother Mary Lou Boyd and his father Milton C. Morrison; his step-father Charles J. Boyd; and a half-brother William Morrison.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield. Cremation rites were accorded and no services are scheduled at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Rock the Vote.
