

John Edwin Richter, 79, of Chatham, passed away at his home, Monday, August 28, 2017. He was born November 14, 1937 in Chicago to Roy Curran and Margaret Prosko Richter. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sheila Richter. Mr. Richter served his county in the US Air Force after the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW Post 4763 in Chatham and the Catholic War Veterans. John was an Illinois State Trooper, who started working at District 2, Elgin and retired in 1992 from District 13, Du Quoin, after 25 years of service with the rank of Lieutenant. He will be greatly missed by his son, Paul Richter of Chatham; his former wife Maurine Richter of Curran; several nieces and nephews including Mike Guadiana, Cameron Norcross, Michael (Lynette) Whiston, and Kathleen (Robert) Colbert; many friends including Robert and Pat Hulme of Edwardsville. Cremation rites will be accorded by Cremation Services of Central Illinois, Chatham before services. His family will greet friends from 10am until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 2, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, IL, 62629, with Gary Knight officiating. The Illinois State Police will post an honor guard at the memorial home during the memorial gathering. Military honors will be accorded by the Department of Defense and the Illinois State Police will confer honors and a bagpiper at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
