

He was born in Springfield on May 1, 1948, the son of Scott and Grace (Clement) Rodgers. John married Diana Sidener in Springfield on May 6, 1988.
John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He went on to work as a secretary for the State of Illinois. In his spare time, John enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing Bingo, and coloring. He was also a member of Teamsters 916. Above all, he was always there for his family and cherished time spent with them. John also enjoyed working the gate at Shaheen’s Speedway in Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Scott Rodgers; and sisters, Becky Murphy and Bonnie Kay Rodgers.
John is survived by his wife, Diana; his children; Amy, Ashley, and Melissa Rodgers, all of Springfield; Joe Rodgers and Scott Rodgers of Springfield and John M. (Diane) Rodgers II of St. Charles, MO, Deanna Logan, Ikeem Mattison and Shameka Allen, all of Springfield; grandchildren, Keaira and Julius Strowder, Joshua Durham, and Kaylin, Butch, and Bishop Rodgers; sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” (Anthony) Bellin, Mary Helen (Richard) Hoffman of Urbana, and Sue-Ann (Robert) Long of Springfield; brother-in-law, Alvin Murphy of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Bisch & Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield. Pastor Ken Gennicks will officiate. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will provide Military Honors at the graveside.
