

John Allen �Steck� Steckenrider, 73, of Divernon, passed away at 5:44am, Thursday, August 13, 2015 at his home. He was born October 28, 1941 in Evanston, IL, the son of John Dale and Doris Elizabeth Greenwood Steckenrider. John was a graduate of Christopher High School and attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. John married Sandra Hinsey on April 16, 1983. He retired as a lieutenant in 1999, after working 27 years for the Sangamon County Sheriff�s Department. John had been a very active member of the Blue Knights Illinois Chapter XV, a motorcycle club for law enforcement officers. He also was a member of the Sangamon County Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 55, National Rifle Association, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association and the Antioch Mountain Boys. He enjoyed working with wood, making many canes and other items for family and friends. John was a gun enthusiast, particularly black powder rifles and hand guns; he enjoyed hunting, motorcycling and traveling across the United States. He was preceded in death by his father, John Dale Steckenrider. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 32 years, Sandra Hinsey; mother, Doris Steckenrider formerly of Christopher, IL; sons, John Scott (Karen) Steckenrider and their 3 children, Elizabeth, John Josiah and Joy of Hartford City, IN and Kirk Allen (Belinda) Steckenrider and their 2 children, Kyle Allen and Bethany of Round Lake, IL; brother, Charles �Chip� (Robbie) Steckenrider of Benton; sister, Virginia �Gingy� Steckenrider of Belleville; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many friends. Cremation rites will be accorded by Cremation Services of Central Illinois, Chatham, before services. Line up at 3:45pm for the law enforcement walk through at 4pm, Sunday, August 16, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Memorial gathering will follow and John�s family will greet friends beginning at 4:15pm until 7pm, Sunday, August 16. Memorial service will be held at 7pm with Reverend Mark Estrop officiating. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor�s choice. Staab Polk Memorial Home, Chatham, is serving the Steckenrider family.
