Jon B. Bauman

Jon B. Bauman, 62, of Springfield, passed away at 8:56 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at St. Johns Hospital surrounded by loved ones and guided in prayer. Jon was born April 30, 1956 in Champaign, the son of Floyd and Dorothy Burden Bauman. He married Erin L. Lesh on September 7, 1985 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield. Erin preceded him in death on October 30, 2014. Jon graduated from Central High School in Champaign. He earned a masters degree from the University of Illinois. He served as the Executive Director for the Teachers Retirement System and was an avid blogger at Capital Fax. He was currently retired after serving the State of Illinois for the past few decades. He loved reading newspapers, listening to police scanners, going to car shows in Chicago, watching NASCAR, and cheering on the Fighting Illini. His true passion was following the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Dorothy Bauman; and his uncle, Ron Bauman. He is survived by his son, Jon B. (Emily) Bauman of Virginia Beach, VA; three daughters, Molly E. (Erick) Irwin of Springfield, Emily A. Bauman of Springfield, and Megan M. Bauman of Springfield; two grandchildren, Hendrick and Elliana; and brother, Ron (Susan) Bauman of Virginia Beach, VA. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Ceremony: 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield.
