Joseph G. Arnoldi

Joseph G. Arnoldi, 77, of Springfield, died at 11:04 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center. Joe was born October 15, 1929 in Carlinville, the son of Joseph B. and Lyda Uder Arnoldi. He married Anneliese Reetz in Germany in 1954. Joe was a graduate of Gillespie High School. He received an Associate Degree at Blackburn College and a Bachelor’s in Language at Washington University in St. Louis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War era monitoring Russian radio transmissions. After his military service, Joe worked for McDonnell-Douglas, which is now Boeing, and then worked for Sentry Insurance. He was also a volunteer teacher of English as a second language at the Lawrence Educational Center. Joe was a quiet, caring, intelligent man whose family was very important to him. He enjoyed golf, reading and tennis and spoke both German and Russian. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter: Jo Anne Arnoldi in 1962. He is survived by his wife: Anneliese Arnoldi of Springfield; one son: John (wife, Kim) Arnoldi of Decatur; three daughters: Janice Arnoldi of Metamora, IL, Tina (husband, Dru) Meshes of Rockford, and Beverly (husband, Kevin) Churchill of Caseyville, IL; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters: Anna Belle Kelly of FL, Judy Malvasio of Carlinville, and Janet (husband, Hank) Mahat of Collinsville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will perform military honors.
