

Joseph P. LaRocca, 96, of Springfield, died at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at his home. Joseph was born September 13, 1918 in Auburn, the son of Peter and Antonina Montalbano LaRocca. He married Frances Marie Solomon on September 13, 1941 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Springfield; she preceded him in death on March 16, 2014. Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army as a staff sergeant during WWII. He was employed by Fiat Allis for 35 years before retiring. Joseph was a charter member of the K of C #4175, United Auto Workers #1027, was an avid Cub Fan, and enjoyed playing baseball and softball. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jean Marie LaRocca; and a sister, Virginia Santini. He is survived by one daughter, Joanne LaRocca of Springfield; one sister, Rose Kink of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2014 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2119 N. 20th St., Springfield, with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
