Joseph A. Rainey Jr., 80 of Springfield died Saturday, March 24, 2001 at Villa Healthcare East, Sherman.. He was born the son of Joseph A. and Susan Bowler Rainey Sr.. He married Patricia Ann Gannon on September 13, 1947 in Howell, Michigan. She preceded him in death in 1979. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Rainey. Mr. Rainey was a Financial advisor for IBM for 40 years, retiring in 1980. He was a Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are three sons, Joseph Anthony Rainey III and Michael Rainey both of Springfield, Thomas (wife, Julie) Rainey of Minneapolis, MN; a daughter, Mary (husband, Robert) Rechner of Springfield; five grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two sisters, Lillian Garrity of Garden City, NY, Muriel Connerton of Naples, FL and a brother, Edward (wife, Maureen) Rainey of Orlando, FL and several nieces and nephews. The family of Joseph Rainey is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 So. 6th St. where friends may call from 5-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2001, with a wake service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at Christ the King Catholic Church.
