Joyce Elaine McAllister

She was born on September 24, 1938 in Springfield, the daughter of the late Charles Edwin Arn and Evelyn (Matern) Handshy. She married James McAllister and he preceded her in death in 1985.

Joyce retired from Hubbard Milling Co after working there for many years. She also was a waitress at Vic’s Pizza for many years. She was a member of Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield, was in a Bunco club, and was an Avon representative for many years.

She is survived by 3 children, Mark McAllister of Springfield, Greg (Yhonie Thompson) McAllister of Chatham, IL, and Lisa (husband James) Lindsey of Springfield; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer (husband Kris) Hughes, Taylor Lindsey, Katie Lindsey, and Bradley Thompson; 1 great-grandchild Kaden Scott Hughes; step-grandchildren, Chris (Erika) Thompson, April Cartwright, Holly Beach, and Mitchel Beach; and step great-grandchildren, Olin, Noah, and Leonela Thompson, Melissa Shearburn, Kyle Cartwright, Jacob Cartwright, Holly Nicole Beach, Dylan Beach, Devin Beach, and Braden Beach; and 1 step great great-grandchild Audrey Rose Richardson; and her siblings, Leona Sullivan of Springfield, Shirley (husband Paul) Bald of Hoffman Estates, IL, Charlene Gassdorf of Houston, TX, and Robert Handshy of Mattoon, IL.

Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Kristina McAllister and a sister Doris Arn.

Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, where visitation will be held on Monday, November 9, 2015 from 10:30 am until time of the funeral service at 12:30 pm. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.
