

Judith A. (Rumble) Clay, 79, of Springfield, died at 6:10 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2015 at Concordia Lutheran Village. Judith was born March 27, 1936 in Virginia, the daughter of Mary E. (Keltner) Rumble. She married Edward Robert Clay on October 2, 1965 at St. Cabrini Catholic Church. Judith was a graduate of Lanphier High School and retired from Illinois Bell as a draftsperson in 1987. She loved to bake, was an excellent cake decorator, liked to sew, was very handy around the house, enjoyed playing cards, going to movies, and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Charles Rumble; and one son, Joseph Clay. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Edward Clay of Springfield; one son, Chris (wife, Colleen) Clay of St. Charles, IL; four grandchildren, Joseph Clay of St. Charles, IL, 2nd Lt. Jessica Clay of South Korea, Jennifer Clay of West Point Military Academy, and Joshua Clay of St. Charles, IL; two sisters, Sandy (husband, Robert) McEvers of Decatur and Barbara Rumble of Glendale, AZ; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Ceremony and Gathering: A Memorial Ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, with Rev. Robert J. Jallas officiating. A Memorial Gathering will immediately follow until 3:30 p.m. Private family burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
