Katherine Ellen Glisson

Katherine Ellen “Sis” Glisson, 72, of Springfield, died at 2:48 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at St. John's Hospital. Katherine was born October 9, 1933 in Springfield, the daughter of Ronald and Josephine Keohen Gibbs. She married B. Gary Glisson on December 27, 1955 at Church of the Little Flower. Katherine went to Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and was a 1951 graduate of Springfield High School. She attended St. Katherine’s College in Minneapolis, MN. Mrs. Glisson retired from the Environmental Protection Agency at the State of Illinois. She had previously worked as a stewardess for Eastern Airlines, at Gary Glisson Realtors, and was also a Republican precinct committeeperson and employed at the Republican State Central Committee. Katherine was a loving, strong willed family lady. She was a member of Illini Country Club, was active in Girl Scouts and Springfield Junior League. Katherine enjoyed swimming, reading, and movies. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother: Dick Gibbs. She is survived by her husband: B. Gary Glisson of Springfield; one daughter: Jenny Glisson of Springfield; four sons: B. Gary Glisson, Jr., Gibbs Glisson, John Glisson, and Richard (wife, Wendy) Glisson all of Springfield; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ronald (wife, Helen) Gibbs, Jr. of Shreveport, LA, and W. Joseph (wife, Lynn) Gibbs of Springfield; one sister-in-law: Pat Gibbs of Bluffton, SC; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation was accorded by the Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Memorial Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola officiating.
