

Kenneth Marshall Jones, 91, of Springfield, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016. Kenneth was born in Springfield, in 1924, the son of John Thomas and Evelyn Adams Jones. He was the oldest of four children. He married Mary Jane Connelly on August 11, 1951 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and was the father of five children. Kenneth served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as an Aviation Radioman 1st Class. He fought in the Pacific and participated in the recovery of Clark Field in the Philippines from the Japanese. He was a graduate of Springfield Junior College, Millikin University, and attended the University of Illinois. Kenneth was a Civil Engineer, employed by the Illinois Department of Transportation for 40 years before retiring. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick; two brothers; and a sister. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Jane; sons, Michael (Debra) Jones and Timothy Jones; daughters, Susan (John) Gallagher and Katherine Jones; grandchildren, Sarah Jones, Rebecca Jones, Rachel (John) Jones, Brighid (Adam) Gallagher, and Eamon (Kim) Gallagher; and great-grandchildren, Isla Mae Steward, Elliot Stevens, and expecting Aurora Gallagher. A private family ceremony will be held. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
