

Kevin M. Duffey, 69, of Springfield, died at 3:20 a.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at St. Johns Hospital. Kevin was born on June 18, 1949, in Springfield, the son of William and Vivian McKennedy Duffey. Kevin graduated from Griffin High School in 1968 and attended Lincoln Land Community College. While in high school, Kevin was a three-year repeat letterman in both baseball and football, and was an all-city selection in football. He was employed with the State of Illinois, Department of Revenue. Kevin was involved with athletics, first as a player for Griffin High School and then as a booster for SHG. He coached the Duffeys Womens softball team and stayed close with the women over the years. His team also placed in the state tournament. Kevin was an avid sports fan and loved the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears. He loved cars and was often invited to play Santa for friends and family gatherings. Kevin was also the co-founder and a player for the Office Tavern Two, a highly competitive and successful mens slow pitch softball team in the mid-1970s. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy Janette. He is survived by his brother, Terrence M. (wife, Clare) Duffey of Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Christina Arguelles of Chicago; and nieces and nephews, Kirsten Kennedy of Houston, TX, Michelle Ulrich of Poway, CA, Charles (wife, Christine) Janette of Las Vegas, NV, and Vincent Janette of Franklin, CO. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A memorial ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. James E. Isaacson, S.J.C. officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to SHG Scholarship Fund, 1200 W. Washington, Springfield, IL 62702 or any charity or animal shelter of the donors choice.
