

Lawrence D. Dineen, age 86, of Springfield passed away at 2:40 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2002 at Sangamon Nursing & Rehab. He was born on February 10, 1916 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of John and Minnie Woods Dineen. He attended St. Benedict’s in Atchison, KS. He married Mary Rita Cour on August 27, 1949 at St. Joseph’s Church. Mr. Dineen was employed by the State of Illinois Secretary of State’s office as a clerk. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. Mr. Dineen was an U.S. Army Veteran serving from December 1941 until December 1945. He was awarded two bronze stars while serving in the Bismarck Archipelago and South Phillippines campaigns. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Michael Dineen in 1973; two sisters and six brothers. Surviving are his wife: Rita Dineen of Springfield, one daughter: Mary Rita Dineen of Springfield; two sons: Martin (wife, Josephine) Dineen of Revere, Mass., and Brendan (wife, Gloria) Dineen of Galway, Ireland, 6 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Concelebrated Memorial Mass will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2002 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Very Reverend Kevin Vann and Reverend Philip Kraft celebrants. Memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield, IL 62704. The family of Lawrence D. Dineen is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
