

Lawrence G. Romang, 86, of Springfield, died at 5:05 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at St. Josephs Home. Lawrence was born on May 21, 1932, in Springfield, the son of John and Florence Gorman Romang, and grew up in Waverly, IL. He married Josephine Ann Madonia on August 25, 1957, at St. Joseph Church in Springfield. Lawrence served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He attended Springfield Junior College and Bradley University and earned his bachelors degree from Sangamon State University. He was employed with the C&IM Railroad for 32 years, retiring as Chief Signal and Office Engineer. He enjoyed photography, gardening, golf, spending time with his family and always helping others. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Donald Romang. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Josephine Romang of Springfield; children, John (Linda) Romang of Rochester, Rebecca (Frank) Farley, Mary Frances Romang, Joseph (Monica) Romang, and Annette (Paul) Jaderholm, all of Springfield; grandchildren, John (Heather), Lawrence (Dana), Gregory (Katie), Timothy (Leslie) and Benjamin Romang, Stephen, Kevin and Emma Farley, Elizabeth, Dominic and Caroline Romang, Mary, and Anna and Grace Jaderholm; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Kathy (Don) English of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Butler Funeral HomeSpringfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 2:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Clinton P. Honkomp, OP, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
