

Lee Roy Elliott, 78, of Loami, died on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at his home. Lee Roy was born on August 18, 1933 in Mechanicsburg, the son of Saul and Emma Herman Elliott. He married Shirley Louise Rieck on June 6, 1964 at St. John's Lutheran Church in New Berlin. Lee Roy enlisted with the U.S. Army on June 18, 1953 and served with Company B 11th Infantry Regt. (rifleman) as a light weapons infantryman. His military honors include being awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). He completed basic training one week before the Korean Conflict ended. In addition to owning and operating his own farm, he also worked in the public sector and retired from the State of Illinois (he worked at multiple branches in Springfield, most recently the Department of Lottery); and earlier he had worked at Fiat Allis in Springfield. He was a lifelong member of Loami Baptist Church and enjoyed farming his land, raising hogs, reading, watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his older brother, Wayne Elliott, who was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on October 29, 1952. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Elliott of Loami; one son, Roy (wife, Linda) Elliott of Sherman; three daughters, Renetta (husband, Carter) Logue of Newmansville, Rochelle (husband, Tim) Simpson of Momence, and Ronda (husband, Jeff) Whitehead of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Coleman, Clinton III, Carter Jr. and Carson Logue, Danielle and Wayne Simpson, Blake, Brandon and Benjamin Elliott; two step-granddaughters, Amber and Brandy Whitehead; one brother, Dale (wife, Marie) Elliott of Pekin; and one niece, Tracy (husband, Chad) Kramer of East Peoria and their daughters, Danielle and Christina. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral ceremony at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Loami Baptist Church, 213 E. Church St., Loami. Funeral Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Loami Baptist Church. The service is being led by Pastor Lloyd Bradshaw, one of his closest and dearest friends.
