He was born in Morrisonville, IL, September 26, 1937, the son of Raymond and Darlene (Calvert) Legg. He married Betty Robson in the Grace Lutheran Church, Springfield, IL September 2, 1956, and she preceded him in death June 20, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth “Beth” Legg in 2021. grandson, Christian Legg and his brother, Joe Legg.
Leland retired from Springfield School District 186 where he served as a maintenance mechanic for several years. He was a member of the Sangamon Valley Wood Carvers and Douglas Ave United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his four children: Elizabeth “Lizz” (companion Denby Glossop) Schwartzkopf of Springfield, Leland Legg Jr. of Cerro Gordo, IL, Bonnie Jean (Thomas) Pipkin and Michael (Gloria) Legg of Springfield and his sister, Delores (Legg) Fagan. There are five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Arrangements are in the care of Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen St. Springfield, where the family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 pm and where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 10:30 am. Pastor Meredith Manning Brown will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
