

Leonard A. "Lenny" Maurer, Jr., 47, of Springfield, died at 2:25 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at his residence. Lenny was born December 31, 1961 in Springfield, the son of Leonard and Mary Ann Pierce Maurer Sr. Lenny retired from JCPenney's Department Store in Springfield after 29 years. He began working at age 16. Lenny was a Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Reds fan and enjoyed caring for others and doing things around the home. He was a former member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, John Butchek, a sister, Mary Margaret Howell, and a nephew, Adam Cripe. He is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Maurer Blasko of Springfield; a brother, Michael Maurer of Springfield; three sisters, Barbara (husband, Jim) Calvert of Decatur, Judith (husband, Ralph) Buckman of Sherman and Kathleen (husband, Dennis) McCann of Michigan; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews to include nephews, Jay R. Withey and Michael R. Smith both of Springfield, and great nephew, Landon A. Smith. Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral ceremony will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Christopher A. House officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
