

Leslie W. “Les” Nimmo, 97, of Springfield, passed away 5:13 p.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at St. John’s Hospital. Leslie was born January 27, 1905 in Waggoner, IL the son of George and Martha Inman Nimmo. He married Josephine Cerentano April 18, 1975 in Florida. Leslie W. Nimmo was Founder and first CEO of Horace Mann Insurance Company retiring in 1963. He was Founder and President of Teachers Finance Company and Founder of Teachers Credit Union. Mr. Nimmo was a teacher for 18 years in Springfield schools and was a lifelong member of Illinois Retired Teacher Association and National Education Association and of the Illinois Bar Association. He was also a member of City Senior Golf Club and Sun City Center Golf Center Racquet Club in Florida, as well as the Sun City Art Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Garfield Nimmo and one sister, Frances Rule. He is survived by his wife: Josephine of Springfield; four sons: Price (wife, Monica) Nimmo, Niles (wife, Mary Jane) Nimmo, Bruce Nimmo, Kevin Nimmo all of Nashville, TN; two daughters: Niki Nimmo, Mimi Bernard both of Grand Rapids, MI; one stepson: Tom (Karen) Tallman of Springfield; one step daughter: Toni (husband, Gerald) Johnson of Rochester; several grandchildren and step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 10:30-1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2003. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2003 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Scott Brindley officiating. Entombment will follow at Oak Ridge Mausoleum.
