

Lois T. Suchomski, 74, of Springfield, passed away at 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center. Lois was born March 5, 1942 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the daughter of Ellis and Rose Goodman Davidson. She married Adam Suchomski on August 31, 1991 in Springfield. Lois attended Rutgers University, and graduated from San Francisco State University and the University of Illinois at Springfield. She proudly taught 4th grade in Elizabeth, New Jersey and Madison, Wisconsin. She then went on to a 25-year career at the Illinois Department of Public Health. She also served as an adjunct faculty member at Lincoln Land Community College. Lois was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved swimming, water aerobics, and her colleagues at Fit Club and Colony West Swim Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; and stepdaughter, Joyce Gaggstatter. She is survived by her husband, Adam Suchomski of Springfield; daughter, Amy (husband, Ryan Shapiro) Damashek of Kalamazoo, MI; son, Steven (wife, Beatrice) Damashek of Twentynine Palms, CA; five granddaughters, Rachel, Samantha, Beatrix, Linsy, and Alice; three step-daughters, Julie Suchomski of Springfield, Janice Suchomski of Decatur, GA, Jayne (husband, Clark) Hubbell of Norcross, GA; step-son-in-law, Richard Gaggstatter of Cumming, GA; step-granddaughters, Audrey Suchomski of Springfield, and Emily Gaggstatter of Cumming, GA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 South 6th St., Springfield, with Rabbi Barry Marks officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
