Laurie started her own business, Capitol Services, in 1985. In 1990, Laurie and Cress bought Maintenance Supply Corporation. They still own and operate Maintenance Supply Corporation and MASCO Packaging and Industrial Supply, where they worked together for over 36 years. Laurie also worked at Springfield Public School District 186. Laurie volunteered at the Springfield YMCA, where she was the first female “Big Boss” selected to run the membership campaign. Her favorite pastime was watching her kids and grandchildren play their many sports. She loved the outdoors and walking and running in Washington Park. In her younger days, she completed three Chicago marathons. Laurie is famous for her Sunday night dinners where all the family would gather, and most times friends of her kids and grandchildren would join the family too. The Maddox house was always open, and Laurie welcomed everyone with open arms.
Laurie was not only blessed with a close-knit family but blessed with many close friends whom she adored.
