Lucinda J. Meyer

Cindy was born on December 16, 1948, in Springfield, the daughter of Robert B. and Dorothy L. (Scruggs) Drake. She married Leland “Lee” H. Meyer on June 27, 1970, at First Presbyterian Church in Springfield.

Cindy was a 1966 graduate of Rochester High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Lindenwood College and went on to earn a master’s degree in English from UIS. Cindy taught high school in St. Louis for many years before substituting and working part-time in the Ball-Chatham School District.

An extensive traveler, Cindy visited and toured all seven continents with many return trips over the years. She scratched off an enviable bucket list of places to visit. When Cindy wasn’t traveling, she enjoyed flowering gardening and decorating for the seasons, especially Christmas. She had a huge Santa Claus collection and always put up numerous Christmas trees. Cindy was an active member of the P.E.O and had volunteered with both the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cindy is survived by her husband of 51 years, Lee Meyer of Chatham; two sons, Eric (wife, Holley) Meyer of Owasso, OK and Matt (wife, Jen) Meyer of Galt, CA; four siblings, Bruce (wife, Bethany) Drake of Springfield, Bill (wife, Jane) Drake of Bradenton, FL, Sue Drake of Hudson, MI, and Kathy Drake of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield. A Memorial Ceremony will follow at 3:30 p.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.

Family has requested that no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Rd., Springfield, IL 62703.
