Lynn C. Mitra

She was born on August 28th, 1947, in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Yolanda Modica Collins and Robert Collins. She married Sumanta Mitra in 1970 in Cleveland, OH.

Lynn earned her bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and her master’s degree in teaching from University of Illinois Springfield. Lynn taught biology and chemistry with District 186 for over 10 years at Springfield Southeast High School, Springfield High School, and Franklin Middle School.

Above all else, Lynn enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family. She also enjoyed watching birds, investing in the stock market, spending time with her dogs, reading, traveling, and watching football.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Sumanta.

She is survived by four children, Rob (wife Tali) Mitra of Fenton, MO, Ron (wife Tracy) Mitra of Darien, IL, Raj (wife Jackie) Mitra of Springfield IL, and Debi Mitra (husband Bart Chmielecki) of Chicago, IL; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Nikhil, Jonathan, Zakhi, Samhi, Ryan, Julia, Naya, and Luke Mitra; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Celebration of Life: Family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
