

Mabel C. Montgomery, 95, of Villa West in Sherman, died at 4:50 a.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2005 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born on May 28, 1909 in Havana, the daughter of George Casper and Anna Mae England Preckwinkle. She married Samuel W. Montgomery in 1932 in Springfield. He preceded her in death on May 21, 1992. Mrs. Montgomery spent her school years in Beardstown. She is a 75 year resident of Springfield, a former employee of Springfield Clinic, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and her family. She was also preceded in death by one grandson: Matthew Helmis; her parents; two brothers: Azariah and John Preckwinkle and two sisters: Mildred Warren and Jane Sullivan. She is survived by two daughters: Carole Oggero and Jane Helmis, both of Yardley, PA; three sons: Sam A. Montgomery of Chatham, Tom (wife, Treva) Montgomery of Springfield, and Jim (wife, Jan) Montgomery of Pleasant Plains; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; one sister: Betty (husband, John) Johnson of Falls Church, VA; and a brother: George (wife, Rosalie) Preckwinkle of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral services will be held Wednesday March 16, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Reverend Thomas G. Radtke officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 220 S. 2nd St., Springfield, IL 62701, and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
