

Marcella S. Adkins, 89, of Springfield, died at 11:05 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2009 at Memorial Medical Center. Marcella was born June 8, 1920 in Springfield, the daughter of Duncan and Sarah Lee Cameron. She married Delmar Corra who preceded her in death in 1941. She later married Edward Adkins, who preceded her in death in 1956. Marcella graduated from St. Joseph Grade School. During the WW II Era she worked in Illiopolis at the Sangamon Ordnance Plant. She also worked for Sangamo Electric and Pillsbury Mills, and retired in 1978 from The Camera Shop. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. She loved to play bingo and was a lifelong Cubs fan. She was also preceded in death by an infant son; her parents; four sisters; and seven brothers. She is survived by two sons, James L. (wife, Jane) Adkins of Springfield and Daniel A. (wife, Deborah) Adkins of Sherman; three daughters, Judith Ann Guinn of Springfield, Sarah (husband, Robert) Walsh of Cantrall and Marilee (husband, Barry Michael) Ayers of Lincoln; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; one sister, Loretta Lee Burns of Colorado Springs, CO; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2119 N. 20th St., Springfield with Rev. Mark Schulte, celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Aloysius School, 2125 N. 21st St., Springfield, IL 62702.
